Tenth Reunion
TMS F’93
11-13 June 2004
I’m aware that I have a reputation for being a bit nostalgic, but in my defense, Reunion weekend clarified TMS’s hidden mission as a nostalgia factory. For those of you who weren’t able to make it (or were convinced that you were too cool) I thought I’d put this stuff online for your enjoyment. As always, email me at tms-notes@andrewsloat.com to tell me things I’ve forgotten or that you want removed before you die of embarrassment.
There will be more stuff added, as people who promised to send me their pictures get around to it. And as soon as I get unlazy I’ll try to make a sound recording of Ruth’s alarm clock. Maybe we can all use it as our cell phone ringtones.

Ten Year Box

First off, the stuff we put in the box was transferred to a trash bag about 3 minutes after we left Vershire. So everything is kind of ratty and a little musty smelling. Here’s the stuff I was able to write down. My apologies for butchering the stories. If there’s a * after your object, I have it, and will happily mail it to you if you ask. In fact, please let me know where to send it because I have a big musty bag in my office just waiting to be loved.
Derby Common Room: Beavis and Butthead poster
Paul: Rubber snake to scare Doug, the viewbook that inspired him to come to TMS
Ruth: That fucking Donald Duck alarm clock.* Letter to yourself*
Henry: Jar of Tang.
Doug: ripped boxer shorts. (He also had us give David and Nancy a round of applause. I forget why, but I have it written in my notes.)

Rich: A poem he wrote the day we left, stapled to a corner of his blue velour blanket. The poem:
I loved my time here
I loved myself here
When I leave a part of me will stay
It will stay in the top bunk of room four, and in the library,
and in the pot sink, and on Garden Hill,
and in the echoes,
for I can no longer speak for myself.
The echoes speak for me as they have for the departed
Our voices, our songs, our memories, collect in the hills,
where they hibernate till next spring
When the new voices arrive
they will be greeted by us, the unforgotten past
and we shall remain in the hills where we multiply, and grow stronger
and our following grows, and the answers remain the same
for the questions do not change
The songs do not change; they speak of the magic; they speak of the love
and they speak of the leaving
and they leave,
But the voices stay.
